We are the San Francisco Opera Orchestra

Read more Our musicians hail from all over the world, but our orchestra is a family. Without the opportunity to perform, we miss the joys both of interacting with our audiences and of performing with our colleagues. Nevertheless, we remain unified and steadfast in our commitment to bring Opera to our community. We are the San Francisco Opera Orchestra family, and we can’t wait to share our art with you once again. . 🎥: Jose Gonzalez Granero . . . #musicwillneverstop #sfopera #ShelterInPlace #sanfrancisco #sf #opera #orchestra #pitorchestra

Wii Shop Music: Theme and Original Variations

If you like multiple cellos (who doesn't?! 😉), check out my five-cello quintet SAKURA: https://www.youtube.com/sakuracellos My mental image of this tune has always been a pair of 1960s housewives with beehive hairdos and cat-eye glasses pushing shopping carts down pristine white aisles filled with thousands of rows of identical soup cans. Fantasia for Solo Viola No. 1 by G.P. Telemann|Joy Fellows, Viola

Read more We are constantly inspired by our colleagues in the orchestra, and wanted to share with you a beautiful rendition of Telemann’s Fantasia, performed by Joy Fellows. We would have been preparing for the fall season right now and learning our parts for Fidelio, Handmaid’s Tale, La Boheme, Cosi fan Tutti, and Rigoletto. It has been difficult to come to terms with the cancellation of our summer and fall seasons, and we are aching to make live music together. But although we are apart and our orchestra members have spread across the world, music keeps us connected. Our hearts are with each other. We are the San Francisco Opera Orchestra. We are family. #musicwillneverstop #powerofmusic #sfopera #OperaIsOn #ShelterInPlace #sanfrancisco #sf #opera #orchestra #pitorchestra #stayathome #missingthepit #orchestrafamily #aparttogether #sharemusic #viola #violist #telemann #classicalmusic

Congratulations SFUSD Graduates!!

Read more The San Francisco Opera Orchestra remembers fondly our recent side-by-side rehearsals and performances with students from within the San Francisco Unified School District, at Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts, and Willie L. Brown Jr., Aptos, and Francisco Middle Schools. We are saddened by the thought that students this year will be unable to celebrate this great occasion via the pomp of a proper graduation ceremony. To help convey our congratulations and shared pride in their accomplishments, we have created a short fanfare (performed by our stellar Principal Trumpet, Adam Luftman), with personal messages from our Orchestra musicians. Congratulations, grads! Video editing by Peter Myers.

Musicians honor George Floyd with Amazing Grace #blacklivesmatter

Read more Emotions ran the gamut as our dear Patty Heller bid farewell to her home and neighborhood with a 92nd straight afternoon performance from the driveway. Always one to use her platform generously, Patty shared at the start of the concert: “The most important news today, tomorrow, next week, next year... the most important thing is that Black Lives Matter. That’s all there is to it.” Here she is, first leading a powerful and poignant rendition of Amazing Grace, with musician friends from our orchestra and around the Bay who joined Patty with spontaneous accompaniment in a beautiful moment.
