Martha Simonds

Associate Principal Second Violin

Violinist Marty Simonds was born and raised in Washington D.C. where she received early musical training in the public schools. She earned her Bachelor of Music degree at the Juilliard School and a Master of Music degree at the Eastman School of Music.

 

Marty joined the San Francisco Opera Orchestra in 1984 and is currently Associate Principal Second Violin. She was a founding member of the Grammy-nominated New Century Chamber Orchestra and served as Associate Concertmaster for 10 years. Her collaborations with other performers and artists include “Skins Modulations”, a wet clay performance at Scripps College with Berkeley sculptor Andree Singer Thompson.

 

Marty met her husband, architect David Teeters, at an acting improvisation class in San Francisco. They moved to slower-paced Alameda where they raised their two daughters, Holly and Lola. Holly is off to college so currently they live with Lola and her beloved ball python Azula.
