Brian McCarty
Horn
Born and raised in California, Brian started piano lessons at age 4 at Ozzie’s Music in San Diego. After adding trumpet lessons from age 5, French horn became his focus at age 9. Brian began horn studies with Tom Chestnut (Marin Symphony) and subsequent teachers included Bob Teft (San Francisco Conservatory of Music), Jerry Merrill, Ralph Hotz, and David Krehbiel (all from San Francisco Symphony) and David Sprung (San Francisco Opera).
Brian joined the San Francisco Ballet orchestra in 1977 and the San Francisco Opera orchestra in 1980. He has had a rich career with many chamber music, symphony, and recording opportunities.
Married to Colleen, they have three grown children and three grandchildren. Brian enjoys spending time with labradors and cats with attitude, baking apple pie, and cooking over a camp stove.
