Michael Cox

Trombone

Originally from Skokie, IL, Michael Cox is currently the Second Trombone of both the San Francisco Opera and San Francisco Ballet Orchestras. He has previously served as Principal Trombone of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra as well as the Quad City Symphony Orchestra. Michael has performed as a guest with the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra,  San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Colorado Music Festival Orchestra.

 

Michael has been a fellow of the New York Philharmonic Global Academy Zarin Mehta Fellowship, the Tanglewood Music Festival, and Music Academy of the West. He was also an associate member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. His primary teachers include Toby Oft, Michael Mulcahy, Timothy Higgins, Peter Ellefson, and Douglas Wright.

 

Outside of the orchestra, Michael enjoys cooking, swimming, and playing chess.
